According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, 27-year-old Stephanie Arely Lopez was driving a 2001 Honda southbound on Indiana when a 2008 Ford SUV that was traveling northbound suddenly crossed over the dividing line and struck the Honda head-on. The driver of the Ford was later identified as Marco Vin Carillo-Martinez.
Loped suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene. No one else was hurt in the collision. Following the accident, the Winston-Salem Police arrested Carillo-Martinez on several charges, including driving while impaired, felony death by motor vehicle, felony hit-and-run, no operator’s license, and driving left of center. Carillo-Martinez was taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he was held on a bond of $40,000.
