The North Carolina Highway Patrol was called to the crash scene shortly after the accident took place. According to reports from troopers, 25-year-old Hannah Mae Lena Briann Guffey of Brevard was driving a Buick when she collided with a bicycle. The bicyclist was identified as Jane Norton Beach of Columbia, South Carolina. Beach suffered critical injuries as a result of the accident, She was rushed to Mission in Asheville where she later succumbed to her injuries. Guffey was not injured in the crash.
Troopers are still conducting an investigation at this time. There is no word on whether charges will be filed against Guffey. No additional details are available at this time.
