New Bern, NC – Michael Garris Hurt in Hit-and-Run Crash on First St.

New Bern, NC (December 25, 2020) – A 31-year-old New Bern man sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday, December 23rd. The collision was reported around 5:50 p.m. on First Street at the intersection with Rhem Street.

According to officials with the New Bern Police Department, Michael Garris was walking near the intersection when he was struck by a car. The car fled the scene following the crash and before police could arrive. Rescue workers also responded to the scene. Garris suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment. There is no additional update on his condition at this time.

Police are still looking for the vehicle that hit Garris. There has been no description of the car or the suspect at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer A. Williams at 252-672-4272.
