Police and rescue workers responded to the crash shortly after the incident took place. According to initial reports from the scene, Deputy Christopher Scott Horne, 50, was traveling on Griffith Road when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle. Details of the events leading up to the accident are not clear at this time. Horne suffered critical injuries in the crash. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash and the driver of the vehicle has not been identified at this time. Police have not said whether any charges are expected to be filed. Motorists in the area were advised to use caution and avoid the crash scene if possible.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the accident. There is no further information available at this time.
