Lexington, NC – Kyle Blackwell Killed in 5th Ave. Motorcycle Crash

Lexington, NC (April 7, 2021) – A 30-year-old man from Lexington died in a motorcycle accident involving an impaired driver on Wednesday morning. The crash took place on West Fifth Avenue near U.S. Highway 29/70.

The Lexington Police Department responded to the accident scene. Police say that 40-year-old Tony Lewis Smyre, of Spencer, was driving an SUV when he crashed into a motorcycle driven by 30-year-old Kyle Franklin Blackwell, of Lexington. Paramedics performed life-saving measures but Blackwell ultimately died at the scene. Smyre was not hurt in the collision. No details surrounding the cause of the accident have been released.

Following an investigation, the LPD charged Smyre with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. Additional charges could be forthcoming pending the outcome of the investigation. Anyone with any information on the accident is asked to call the Lexington Police Department or Lexington CrimeStoppers.
