Alamance County, NC – One Killed, One Hurt in Crash with Box Truck on I-40

Alamance County, NC (October 14, 2020) – A 37-year-old man from Mebane was killed after his car crashed into a box on Interstate 40/85 in Alamance County on Tuesday morning. The crash happened near the exit for Highway 54.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. Troopers say that 37-year-old Marco Antonio Aponte Shetter was driving a vehicle when, for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and collided with a disabled box truck that was sitting stationary in the median of the highway. The box truck driver was identified as 60-year-old Imtiaz Rasul of High Point.

Shetter suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. Rasul also sustained injuries and was transported to Alamance Regional Hospital in unknown condition. Several lanes of the roadway were closed while troopers investigated and cleared the crash scene.

There is no word on the cause of the accident at this time and an investigation is underway.
