Bicycle Accidents in North Carolina  Zebulon, NC - Bicyclist Killed in Crash on NC Highway 96

According to statistics from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there was a total of 596 reported bicycle accidents in North Carolina in 2018. From this number of reported crashes, there were 560 injuries and 17 fatalities. While the numbers for bicycle crashes are naturally lower than other types of accidents, the risks to bicyclists are far greater when compared to car accidents or crashes involving larger vehicles with more protection. Based on these numbers, a bicyclist is almost certain to be injured when they are involved in an accident on our roadways.

The cause of a North Carolina bicycle accident can be difficult to determine. These crashes happen suddenly and can require a detailed crash reconstruction to re-create the events that led up to the accident. In many cases, the driver of the vehicle will cause the crash to occur due to negligent driving. This includes distraction, speeding, impairment, reckless driving, and failing to yield the right of way to bicycles. Unfortunately, these dangerous and deadly crashes can take place in an instant and can result in catastrophic and life-changing injuries.
