Winston-Salem, NC – Markesha Harrison Identified in Fatal Moped Accident

Winston-Salem, NC (August 9, 2020) – The Winston-Salem Police Department has released the identity of a woman who was killed in a moped crash on Friday in Winston-Salem. The crash took place just after midnight on US 421 south near exit 230.

Authorities report that 23-year-old Markesha Chanell Harrison was riding a moped southbound in the left-hand lands of the roadways when she was hit struck from behind by a 2011 Ford Honda. After being hit by the Honda, the moped was also hit by a 2016 Ford truck. Harrison suffered critical injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, 29-year-old Megan Rushelle Taylor and a passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck 32-year-old Justin Anthony Padgett, was not hurt in the accident.

This is the 13th deadly accident so far in Winston-Salem this year. Police are still investigating the crash and have not determined if any charges are expected at this time. Anyone with information should call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
