Winston-Salem, NC – Catalina Mariano-Cruz Killed in U.S. 52 Accident

Winston-Salem, NC (January 10, 2021) – A woman from Winston-Salem died in a two-vehicle accident that took place on U.S. Highway 52. The crash occurred on Saturday, January 9th at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the accident, which took place in the southbound lanes of the highway. According to officers, a 1997 Mercury van was traveling in the right lane when, for unknown reasons, it collided with a 2003 Saturn that was in the left lane. The crash caused the van to flip several times before coming to rest. A passenger, in the van, 59-year-old Catalina Mariano-Cruz, died at the accident scene. The driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital while the Saturn driver was not injured. The roadway was closed after the crash occurred but reopened a few hours later.

An investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available.
