Wilmington, NC – Joseph Smith, Tammy Smith Hurt in Market St. Car Accident

Wilmington, NC (June 12, 2021) – Two residents of Hampstead were injured in a car accident that took place in Wilmington on Wednesday, June 9th. The crash happened just after 8:00 p.m. on Market Street at the intersection with Station Road.

According to officer M.D. Poff with the Wilmington Police Department, Charles Dale was 2010 Ford on Station Road when he came to a stop sign at the intersection with Market Street. Dale attempted to make a left turn onto Market Street but failed to see an oncoming vehicle driven by Joseph Smith. The two cars collided in the roadway, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. Smith and his passenger Tammy Smith were both hurt in the crash, along with another passenger in their vehicle. Rescue crews arrived and evaluated the injured victims before taking them to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. There is no current update on their conditions at this time.

Following an investigation, Officer Poff issued a citation to Dale for making an unsafe movement and for driving with an expired registration card or tag. No additional injuries were reported and no further information is available.
