Wake County, NC (January 6, 2021) – One person was seriously injured after a crash that took place in eastern Wake County. The crash happened Monday on Interstate 87 near the exit for Smithfield Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to a report from troopers, a pickup truck was pulling a trailer when the trailer suddenly became detached in the roadway during rush hour traffic. Two cars struck the detached trailer and one of the cars struck another car. Rescue crews arrived at the scene shortly after the accident.
One driver had to be extricated from a vehicle and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Another driver sustained minor injuries. Police have not released the identities of those involved in the accident and there is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to call the Highway Patrol. No further details are available.
