Statesville, NC- Pedestrian Killed in Friday Crash on Interstate 77

Statesville, NC (August 16, 2020) – A pedestrian was killed in an accident that took place on Interstate 77 in Statesville on Friday, August 15th. The incident happened in the northbound lanes of the roadway near mile marker 51.
According to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a car was traveling in the northbound lanes when it struck a pedestrian who was walking near the right side of the roadway. Rescue workers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash took place and began administering medical treatment to the pedestrian. Ultimately, their efforts were unsuccessful and the pedestrian was later pronounced dead as a result of the accident. Authorities have not identified the deceased victim or the driver at this time. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the accident.
The northbound lanes of I-77 were closed following the accident and remained closed until early Saturday morning. Motorists were diverted onto an alternate route as authorities investigated at the scene. There is no word on whether any charges are expected.
