Martin County, NC – Garland Barber Killed in Car Accident on US 64

Martin County, NC (July 6, 2020) – One person is dead and two others were hurt in a car accident in Martin County on Saturday, July 4th. The crash happened on US 64 at the intersection with Highway 17.

According to Sgt. P.L. Briggs of the State Highway Patrol, 59-year-old Garland Barber was driving a Ford pickup truck northbound on Highway 17 when he attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 17. As he turned onto Highway 17, his vehicle collided with a Hyundai that was traveling southbound.

Barber was rushed to a local hospital following the crash where he was later pronounced dead. The Hyundai driver, 19-year-old Nyla Brown and her passenger, 19-year-old Jacqual Brown, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The SHP is still investigating the crash at this time.
