High Point, NC – James Shields Hospitalized after Crash on Eastchester Drive

High Point, NC (May 15, 2021) – A Kernersville man was taken to the hospital after a car accident in High Point on Thursday, May 13th. The crash took place around 11:00 a.m. along Eastchester Drive near the intersection with Premier Drive.

Officer J.M. Spoon of the High Point Police Department responded to the crash scene. According to a report filed by Officer Spoon, Mel Barfield, of Lexington, was traveling southbound on Eastchester Drive as he approached the intersection with Premier Drive. According to witnesses, Barfield had a red light in his direction of travel. At the same time, James Shields, of Kernersville, was traveling on Premier Drive when he arrived at the same intersection. Shields had a green light in his direction of travel. Barfield failed to stop at the red light and collided with Shields’ vehicle at the intersection.

Shields sustained undisclosed injuries as a result of the accident. He was taken by ambulance to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment. Barfield was not hurt. Officer Spoon issued a citation to Barfield for failing to stop at a red light.
