Durham, NC – One Killed, Four Hurt in Crash near Southpoint Mall

Durham, NC (September 22, 2020) – Police responded to the scene of a crash involving a truck and a bus in Durham on Sunday, September 20th. The crash was reported around 3:45 p.m. near The Streets at Southpoint Mall.

According to reports from the Durham Police Department, 28-year-old Jacob Kipserem of Buies Creek was driving a box truck eastbound on Renaissance Parkway when he attempted to turn left onto Rolando Drive. As he turned, the truck collided with a GoTriangle Bus that was traveling westbound on Renaissance. Kipserem was thrown from the truck and died at the scene. The driver of the bus and three passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. There is no additional update on their conditions at this time.

Police are still investigating the accident. Neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be a factor according to officers. The crash caused the roadway to be shut down for several hours while crews worked at the scene.
