Durham, NC (August 18, 2021) – A 54-year-old man died in a two-car collision that took place in Durham on Tuesday, August 17th. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-85 near Duke Street around 6:00 a.m.
According to police, David Lynch, of Durham, was driving a 2006 Ford F150 on I-85 when he was hit from behind by a 2006 BMW 325i driven by Marvin Elmer Perez-Garcia, of Durham. Lynch was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Perez-Garcia was not hurt in the accident. After an investigation, police charged Perez-Garcia with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, following too closely, illegal window tinting, and driving without a license.
There were no other vehicles involved or reported injuries as a result of the crash. No additional information is available at this time.
