Pedestrian Accidents in North Carolina
According to statistics issued by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the number of fatal pedestrian accidents is on the rise. In 2018, there were 225 reported fatalities due to pedestrian accidents in North Carolina. This number represented a 12.5% increase in pedestrian fatalities when compared with 2017. The dangers of pedestrian accidents are certainly well known and pedestrians are extremely vulnerable when they are struck by vehicles. This point is supported by the fact that 9.2% of all pedestrians involved in crashes lost their lives in the accident. In addition to this number, there are many more who suffer serious injuries as a result of these collisions.
A negative outcome is, unfortunately, quite common with a North Carolina pedestrian accident. However, just because the crash itself was severe does not mean that you should have to suffer in the long term. Injured pedestrians and their families have important and valuable legal rights in many cases. For example, where a motorist is at fault for the accident, the pedestrian or their family may be entitled to file a personal injury or wrongful death claim. These claims ask for the recovery of compensation due to pain and suffering caused by the crash, medical bills, lost wages, punitive damages, and more. Immediately after the accident, it is important to obtain the help of a skilled and experienced lawyer as soon as possible to ensure that your rights are fully protected.
