Cary, NC – Curt Floyd Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-40

Cary, NC (December 24, 2020) – A 56-year-old man from Raleigh was killed and several others were injured after a multi-vehicle crash in Cary on Wednesday, December 23rd. The crash was reported around 5:00 p.m. on Interstate 40 near Exit 287 and North Harrison Avenue.

The collision took place when a man was parked on the shoulder of the roadway. As he exited his vehicle, he attempted to get out and cross the road. While he was walking on the road, the man was struck by a cement truck. Following the crash, the truck struck a guardrail and two other vehicles that were traveling in the opposite direction before coming to rest.

The pedestrian, identified as Curt Floyd, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cement truck driver was not hurt but the drivers of the two vehicles were taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. The passengers in the respective vehicles were transported with mild to moderate injuries. No one else involved in the accident has been identified.

Traffic was backed up on the interstate for several miles following the crash. The road remained closed until around 9:00 p.m.

Police are still investigating the accident at this time and there is no word on whether any charges are expected.
