Winston-Salem, NC – Austin Arrington Killed in Old Walkertown Rd. Crash

Winston-Salem, NC (August 8, 2020) – A 23-year-old man from Belews Creek was killed while working traffic control in Winston-Salem on Thursday, August 6th. The crash took place in the 5200 block of Old Walkertown Road.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, Austin Reid Arrington was standing in the westbound lane of Old Walkertown Road and holding a stop/slow sign for motorists as utility work was being done nearby. While Reid was holding the sign, a car approached him and failed to stop as indicated. The car struck Arrington and threw him into the roadway.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene and rushed Arrington to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. At the time he was struck, Arrington was working for ANSCO, a subcontractor of AT&T. There is no word at this time on the identity of the driver who struck Arrington and no information on whether charges are expected to be filed.

The Winston-Salem Police Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating and reconstructing the crash. There is no further information available at this time.
