Surry County, NC – One Killed, One Hurt in Sunday Car Accident on I-77

Surry County, NC (June 14, 2021) – One person was hurt and another was killed following a two-car crash on Interstate 77 in Surry County. The accident happened around 10:20 p.m. near mile marker 100.

According to Trooper Ned Moultrie of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a tree fell into the roadway on I-77. The vehicle struck the downed tree and resulted in the death of the driver, identified as 32-year-old D’Angelo Lee Campbell of Maple Heights, Ohio. The passenger, 36-year-old Leisha Figueroa, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and no additional injuries were reported. No other cars were involved in the crash.

There is no further information available at this time. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
