Raleigh, NC – UPDATE: Isaiah Jonathan Morris-Sanders Identified in I-440 Crash

Raleigh, NC (February 21, 2021) – Police in Raleigh have identified a man who was killed as he was walking across a major interstate on Friday night. The crash took place around 11:30 p.m. on I-440 near the exit for North Carolina Highway 87.

The Raleigh Police Department responded to the crash scene just after the accident happened. According to police, Jonathan Isaiah Morris-Sanders, of Raleigh, was walking along the eastbound lanes of I-440 when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the car did not stop at the scene, however, and fled before police could arrive.

When officials made it to the scene, they pronounced Morris-Sanders deceased as a result of injuries he sustained in the collision. The crash resulted in the eastbound lanes of the highway being closed until around 3:00 a.m. Motorists were urged to use caution near the scene or to find alternate routes of travel.

Officials have not released any information on the other vehicle or its driver. A search is underway for a  suspect at this time. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact the Raleigh Crime Stoppers.
