Morganton, NC – Troy Dean Benson Killed in Car Accident on N.C. 126

Morganton, NC (July 28, 2020) – A 49-year-old man from Ohio was killed in a head-on crash near Morganton on Monday, July 27th. The crash took place around 2:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of North Carolina Highway 126.

According to Trooper K.J. Macchia of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 49-year-old Troy Dean Benson was traveling on N.C. 126. At the same time, 48-year-old Amy Burford of Morganton was traveling the opposite direction on the same road. Suddenly, and for unknown reasons, Burford’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with Benson’s vehicle.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene quickly and immediately began CPR on Benson. Their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful as Benson passed away at the crash scene. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the accident.
Neither impairment nor speed were contributing factors in the crash according to Trooper Macchia. The collision is still under investigation at this time and there is no word as to the cause. It is not known whether any charges are expected to be filed against Burford for her role in the crash.
