Maxton, NC – Ericka McLean Killed in Crash on McGirt Gin Road

Fayetteville, NC (August 5, 2020) – A 24-year-old woman from Fayetteville was killed and three others were hurt in a crash that took place in Maxton on Tuesday, August 4th. The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on McGirt Gin Road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the crash scene. According to police, 25-year-old Angel Javier Dickerson was traveling eastbound on McGirt Gin when he failed to yield to another vehicle at an intersection. As Dickerson pulled out from a stop sign, his car struck a 2013 Chevrolet passenger car driven by 51-year-old Joan Hunt Johnson. Dickerson’s car ran off the roadway before it overturned and came to rest in a field.

Dickerson’s passenger, 24-year-old Ericka Alexis McLean received critical injuries as a result of the crash and was later pronounced dead. The driver, Angel Dickerson, was rushed to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill with critical injuries while two others were taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time. There have been no charges filed as a result of the crash.  No further details have been released.
