Laurinburg, NC (May 17, 2021) – A Maxton woman died in a head-on crash that took place over the weekend in Laurinburg. The accident happened on U.S. Highway 501 near the intersection with Smyrna Church Road.
According to a report from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a gray Chevrolet SUV was traveling on N.C. 501 when the driver of the SUV crossed the center line and collided head-on with a black Toyota pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck, 68-year-old Earlene Clark, suffered critical injuries in the crash. Rescue crews arrived and pronounced Clark dead at the accident scene. The SUV driver, identified as a woman from Laurinburg, is facing charges in connection with the incident. There is no word on any additional injuries.
An investigation is ongoing at this time. Troopers do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash.
