Currituck County, NC (June 23, 2021) – Police in Currituck County are investigating following a deadly hit-and-run crash on Monday night. The crash took place just after 9:00 p.m. on North Carolina Highway 34 near Indiantown Road in Shawboro.
According to a report, Mariah Kelsy Sayre, was walking near the road when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene following the collision. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol, along with rescue crews, arrived at the scene where Sayre was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.
A surveillance video in the area captured the incident. Following an investigation, troopers were able to locate the driver and vehicle involved in the crash. At this time, it is not believed that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Police are still investigating to determine whether any charges will be filed.
