Fatal Accidents in North Carolina  Clinton, NC - Two Killed After Being Thrown from Van on SR 1004

In 2020, the number of fatal car accidents in North Carolina rose significantly from the year before. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, 1,659 people lost their lives in crashes that happened in 2020. In 2019, approximately 1,500 people died in accidents, an increase of greater than 12%. From these numbers, we can determine that our state’s roadways may be becoming more dangerous. The reason for the increase in fatalities could also be attributed to a greater number of motorists and negligent drivers on our state’s roadways.

There is nothing more devastating and heartbreaking than the loss of a loved one in a crash. This is especially true if your loved one was killed in an accident that was not their fault. When a negligent driver is responsible for the collision, family members of the victim are likely to have questions regarding the future. Under North Carolina law, the victim’s next-of-kin can file a wrongful death action against the negligent driver. A wrongful death claim can ask for compensation for a variety of things, including funeral and medical bills, loss of affection, lost wages, and more. Due to the complexity of these cases, they should only be filed by an experienced North Carolina wrongful death lawyer.
