Charlotte, NC – UPDATE: John Hinkle Identified in Deadly I-77 Crash

Charlotte, NC (November 21, 2020) – Police in Charlotte have identified the victim of a deadly crash on Interstate 77. The incident took place around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19th.

According to authorities, Dillon John Hinkle, of Hiddenite, was traveling southbound on I-77 just north of Interstate 85. The area was congested with traffic from a construction project. As traffic slowed, Hinkle collided with the back of a tractor-trailer. He suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Rescue crews responded, causing a major backup on the interstate as motorists were advised to find alternate routes of travel, and traffic was rerouted onto Sunset Road. The truck driver was not hurt in the crash.

There is no word on the cause of the accident at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
