Cary, NC – UPDATE: Melissa Dewy Identified in Fatal Crash on U.S. 1

Cary, NC (October 3, 2020) – Officials with the Cary Police Department have identified the victim of a fatal accident that took place on Thursday. The crash happened along U.S. 1, near U.S. 64, around 9:00 a.m.

According to police, 27-year-old Melissa Dewy, of Ohio, was killed int he fatal crash. Investigators say that Dewy was driving a station wagon on U.S. 1 when her vehicle became disabled in the travel lane. As she exited the car, she was struck by a passing motorist. The impact of the crash caused her car to collide with a third vehicle. Rescue crews arrived at the scene where Dewy was pronounced dead from her injuries. The two other drivers were transported to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries. They have not been identified at this time.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 remained closed until around noon, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The Cary Police are still investigating the crash at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
