Alamance County, NC – Mark Cercy Killed in Head-On Crash on NC-87

Alamance County, NC (December 27, 2020) – A 36-year-old man from Pittsboro died in a two-vehicle accident that took place in Alamance County on Saturday, December 26th. The crash happened o North Carolina Highway 87 near Greensboro Chapel Hill Road around 4:30 a.m.

According to a report from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on NC-87 when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a Dodge Caliber traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Caliber, Mark Cercy, died at the crash scene. The Toyota driver, who has not been identified, was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated at the crash scene. Impairment is suspected as a factor in the accident and charges are pending at this time.
