Hillsborough, NC – Three Killed in Crash on NC Highway 57

Hillsborough, NC (July 1, 2021) – Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a triple fatal crash near Hillsborough on Thursday morning. The accident took place around 6:45 a.m. on North Carolina Highway 57.
According to troopers, 21-year-old Timothy Dylan Williams, of Burlington, was traveling northbound in a Hyundai sedan. At the same time, 53-year-old Ricky Lee Willard, of Timberlake, was traveling southbound in a Ford SUV. For unknown reasons, Williams veered off the road to the right. He overcorrected his vehicle and traveled left of center before crashing head-on with Willard’s vehicle. Williams, Willard, and Willard’s passenger, Regina Murphy Willard, all died at the accident scene.
Troopers believe that speed was a primary contributing factor to the crash. The road was closed between N.C. 57 nad Strouds Creek Road. Motorists in the area were urged to find alternate routes of travel. An investigation is underway.
We would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to the families of the victims following this tragic car accident in Hillsborough.
