According to the State Highway Patrol, a driver was attempting to merge onto I-73 at NC 42. At the same time, a trooper with the Highway Patrol was responding to a call and traveling southbound on I-73. As the driver merged, his vehicle was struck by the trooper’s vehicle. The unidentified driver was taken to Randolph Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper was not injured.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the third party vehicle was transported to Randolph Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and there is no further information available.
