Elkin, NC – Two Taken to Hospital Following Cargo Van Crash on I-77

Elkin, NC (May 22, 2021) – Two people have been taken to the hospital following a cargo van crash in Surry County early Friday morning. The collision happened just after 5:00 a.m. along Interstate 77 near the town of Elkin.

According to the Surry County Emergency Services, the cargo van was traveling in the southbound lanes of the roadway when the driver lost control. The van veered off the road and collided with a guardrail. It then caught fire and was left badly burned. The driver and a passenger were both injured in the collision and were taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time and the victims of the accident were not immediately identified.

The collision caused several lanes of the road to be shut down while police investigated at the scene. Drivers were advised to find alternate routes of travel if possible.
