Durham, NC – Police Officer Hurt in Hit-and-Run on Copper Leaf Pkwy.

Durham, NC (May 1, 2021) – A Durham police officer was involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier this week. The collision was reported around 11:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Copper Leaf Parkway.

The Durham officer responded to the scene upon receiving a report of a stolen vehicle. The officer spotted the alleged vehicle and began the process of confirming it to be stolen. While the officer was at the scene, a man came from a nearby apartment and got inside the vehicle. The man attempted to drive away and dragged the officer several feet before he fell to the ground. The vehicle continued traveling before it crashed on N.C. 98 near Oak Grove Parkway.

Police later located the suspect, 21-year-old Mujahid Muhammad, of Durham. Muhammad was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and felony fleeing to elude arrest. The officer, who was not identified, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
