Durham, NC – Man Killed, Wife Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Fayetteville Rd.

Durham, NC (September 20, 2020) –  A 32-year-old man is dead and his wife suffered injuries in a rear-end motorcycle collision that happened in Durham on Friday. The crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Fayetteville Road near the intersection with Stratford Lakes Drive.

The Durham Police Department responded to the scene of the crash along with rescue crews. Investigators were able to determine that 26-year-old Timothy Long of Durham was driving a vehicle on Fayetteville Road when a motorcycle in front of him was stopped at the intersection of Fayetteville and Stratford Lakes. Long failed to slow his vehicle and collided with the back of the motorcycle.

The 32-year-old male driver was taken to Duke University Hospital where he died from his injuries. The passenger, his wife, was also taken to Duke with critical injuries which are considered life-threatening. Following an investigation, Long was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash and additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
