Charlotte, NC – Victim Identified in Fatal Crash, CATS Bus Driver Charged

Charlotte, NC (May 28, 2020) – The victim of a fatal Charlotte accident has been identified by authorities. The crash was reported on Tuesday, May 26th just past noon.

At that time, police responded to the 5000 block of N. Tryon Street near Birmingham Street in reference to a collision. Officials say that 58-year-old Michael Skelton, Jr. was at a bus stop when he tried to board a CATS bus. As he was boarding, he was struck by the bus instead.

The driver, Luis Manuel Garcia, fled the scene after striking Skelton. Garcia was later arrested by officers and charged with felony hit and run. No further details have been released.
