Richlands, NC – One Killed, One Seriously Hurt in Car Accident on U.S. 258

Richlands, NC (August 4, 2020) – Two cars were involved in a crash in Richlands that left a man dead and a woman in critical condition. The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3rd.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol was called to the crash scene on U.S. 258. According to the investigating troopers, 31-year-old JaQuan Respus was driving a Hyundai at a high rate of speed and attempting to make a right turns onto US 258. Respus lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a curb. The car then continued over the median and into oncoming traffic before being struck by a pickup truck on the driver’s side.

Respus was killed in the accident. An adult female passenger was rushed to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with critical, life-threatening injuries. The woman has not been identified at this time. The pickup driver transported himself to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. There is no further update on his condition at this time.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing. No further information is available.
