Swansboro, NC – One Killed in Car Accident on West Corbett Avenue

Swansboro, NC (September 4, 2020) – One person was killed in a four-car accident that took place in Swansboro on Thursday, September 3rd. The crash took place around 1:30 p.m. on West Corbett Avenue at the intersection with Main Street.

The Swansboro Police Department was dispatched to the scene in reference to the accident. According to reports, 55-year-old Luther Ruffner of Hubert was traveling westbound in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado when his vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 2018 Freightliner driven by 30-year-old Luis Gonzalez of High Point. The Freightliner and Silverado came to rest along with another vehicle that was struck in the collision. Debris from the crash then struck a 2014 Audi driven by 41-year-old Natascha Fogel of Jacksonville.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of travel were shut down while police and rescue workers were at the scene. Ruffner was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. There is no report of additional injuries in the crash.

The collision remains under investigation at this time. No additional details are available.
