Pembroke, NC – Alquan Lyles Killed in Crash on Union Chapel Rd.

Pembroke, NC (April 11, 2021) – A 23-year-old man from Lumberton was killed and a woman was injured following a crash earlier this week. The accident happened around 3:41 a.m. on Monday, April 5th along Union Chapel Road, near Pembroke.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to SHP Troopers H.P. Locklear, 23-year-old Alquan Lyles was driving a 2005 Chevrolet passenger vehicle northbound along Union Chapel Road. At the same time, 21-year-old Rhiannon Jones, of Pembroke, was operating a 2010 Chevrolet southbound on Union Chapel.

As Jones rounded a curve, her vehicle traveled into the northbound lanes of Union Chapel and collided head-on with Lyles’ car. Lyles’ vehicle then left the roadway and struck a ditch before coming to rest. Jones’ car came to rest in the roadway. Lyles was pronounced dead at the crash scene while Jones was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. There is no further update on her condition at this time.

No charges have been filed pending the outcome of toxicology reports. There is no further information at this time.
