Lumberton, NC – One Dead, One Hurt in Old Whiteville Road Crash

Lumberton, NC (May 22, 2020) – A teenager is dead and another person is injured after a Thursday crash in Lumberton. The collision took place around 11:45 p.m. on Old Whiteville Road.

According to the State Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old female was a passenger in a 2004 Hyundai being driven by 21-year-old Keanan Davon Young. Young was traveling south on Old Whiteville when he lost control of his vehicle on a wet roadway. The car exited the road to the left and struck a tree before coming to rest in a ditch.

Young was rushed to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old died at the crash scene. Police believe that Young was driving too fast for the road conditions. There is no word on whether any charges are pending at this time.
