Kenly, NC – Two Killed by Fleeing Driver on US 301

Kenly, NC (May 10, 2022) – Officials in Kenly responded to the scene of a fatal crash following a police chase. The crash happened on Monday morning May 9th along US Highway 301 near the intersection with Interstate 95.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Tanya Renee Terry was driving a black Dodge Charger at 112 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. Police tried to stop Terry’s vehicle but she fled and a high-speed chase ensued. As Terry proceeded onto US 301, her car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a white pickup truck driven by 52-year-old Otis Ray Allen. Both Allen and Terry were transported to WakeMed with serious injuries. Two passengers in the pickup truck, 43-year-old Marvin Dave Atkinson and 56-year-old Thaddeus Eugene Mickens, died as a result of the accident.

Troopers have since charged Terry with several offenses related to the accident including two counts of second-degree murder, speeding 112 in a 55-mile-per-hour zone and felony speeding to elude arrest.

The road was closed for several hours while an investigation was ongoing. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
