Charlotte, NC (August 31, 2020) – Six people were hurt in a wrong-way crash involving a car and an ambulance in Charlotte on Monday, August 31st. The crash took place around 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 277 near uptown and Independence Boulevard.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a car was traveling the wrong way on I-277 when it collided head-on with an ambulance. The crash resulted in two ambulance drivers being hospitalized for their injuries. Four people in the other vehicle were taken to Atrium Health-Main for treatment of serious injuries. There were no patients aboard the ambulance when the accident took place. Police have not said what caused the car to be in the wrong lane at the time of the collision.
The crash is still under investigation at this time. There is no further information available.
