Cabarrus County, NC – Jogger Hurt in Crash with Cabarrus Sheriff’s Vehicle

Cabarrus County, NC (July 31, 2020) – A jogger suffered injuries after being hit by a deputy with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning. The crash took place around 5:30 a.m. on Stallings Road near the intersection with Harrisburg Veterans Parkway.

According to police reports, a deputy with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office was traveling northbound on Stallings Road. The deputy stopped at an intersection before turning left onto Harrisburg Veterans Parkway. As the deputy completed his turn, his vehicle collided with a jogger. The deputy had a blinking yellow traffic light at the time the crash occurred. The deputy told investigating officers that he did not see the jogger in the roadway.

The 19-year-old jogger was trapped beneath the police vehicle after being hit. Crews were able to extricate him from underneath the car and he was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. At this time, it appears as though the injuries are not life-threatening. A second jogger was also injured but it is unclear if that person was also struck by the deputy’s vehicle.
