Raleigh, NC – Car Accident with Serious Injuries on I-440

Raleigh, NC (March 15, 2021) – Police and rescue officials responded to an accident on Interstate 440 in Raleigh on Monday night. The crash involved two vehicles and took place just before 7:00 p.m. near Lake Boone Trail.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, a woman was driving at a high rate of speed on I-440 when she suddenly lost control of her vehicle. The car veered off the roadway and traveled down an embankment. A second car swerved to avoid the woman’s vehicle causing the driver to crash into a concrete median. The driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. There is no word on additional injuries at this time. Police have not identified the victims involved in the collision.

The crash resulted in the roadway being closed until about 8:30 p.m. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

No further information has been released at this time. An investigation is underway.
