Greensboro, NC – Michael Newell Killed in U.S. 29 Car Accident

Greensboro, NC  (September 20, 2021) – A 34-year-old Gibsonville man was killed in a multi-car crash in Greensboro on Friday night. The accident was reported around 9:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 29 near Summit Hills Drive.

The Greensboro Police Department was called to the scene shortly after the crash happened. According to police, Michael Shane Newell was traveling southbound on U.S. 29 in a 2013 Ford Mustang. At the same time, a 58-year-old woman from Danville, VA was also traveling southbound on U.S. 29. The woman was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer.

The Mustang and the Explorer collided, sending the Mustang across a barrier and into the oncoming travel lanes. The Mustang struck a Ford F-150 head-on before coming to rest. Newell died at the scene while the driver of the Explorer was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.

Police continue to investigate the accident at this time. There is no further information available.
