Cape Carteret, NC – Two Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 24

Cape Carteret, NC (January 30, 2021) – Police and rescue officials responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Cape Carteret on Thursday, January 28th. The accident took place around 5:45 p.m. on Highway 24 near the intersection with Highway 58.

Several agencies were at the scene, including the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Western Carteret Fire and EMS Department. According to a report from officials, the two cars collided head-on when one of the vehicles crossed the yellow line. It is unknown why the driver crossed the line at this time.

One person was taken by ambulance to Vidant Health in Greenville while a second victim was transported to the Naval Medical Center in Camp Lejeune. One of the victims had serious injuries and there is no word on the condition of the other. The identities of the victims’ are not available at this time.

Traffic in the area was diverted as police investigated at the scene. There is no word on whether charges are expected. No further information is available.
